Taoist Master Mantak Chia, founder of the Universal Healing Tao System, is the only person in the world that has been named twice the “Chi Kung Master of the year” by the International Congress of Chinese Medicine and Chi Kung, in 1990 and in 2012. He has written more than 40 books about taoism, that have been translated to more than 30 languages.
He is son of Chinese parents, was born in 1944 in Bangkok (Thailand) where at age 6 he began studying Buddhist meditation techniques and in the following years, studied Muay Thai (Thai boxing), Aikido, Yoga, Kung Fu Shao-Lin, Chi Nei Tsang, Tai Chi and Zen with several teachers.
He also learned from Taoist masters the practices of esoteric tao and inner alchemy, being his main Master Yi Eng (White Cloud) who taught Mantak Chia a complete system of Taoist practice and authorized him to transmit these Taoist teachings.
To complement these teachings and to better understand the functioning of the body, he studied Western anatomy and medicine.
In 1979 he founded the Universal Healing Tao Center in New York (originally called Taoist Esoteric Yoga Center) and on his return to Thailand in 1994 he started building the Universal Tao Training Center (now known as Tao Garden) in Chiang Mai (northern of Thailand) .
He lives and teaches in Thailand, in the Tao Garden, but twice a year (in spring and summer) he makes a world tour to teach his teachings in Europe, the United States, Australia, China and India.
